Motorola Razr: Five reasons why you should buy it over other folding smartphones

Technology Comments Off

It’s 2020 and folding phones are here. Samsung has been toying around with the idea of a phone with a flexible display for almost a decade and it has finally two models in its portfolio that flex their screens. The Galaxy Z Flip is the latest one and it has all the high-end bells and whistles you can expect in a folding phone. However, you can’t deny the fact that the Galaxy Z Flip takes inspiration from the Motorola Razr.

That brings us to the Razr, which has kept us mesmerised since November 2019. The Razr immediately seems to be at a massive disadvantage to the Galaxy Z Flip on paper when you consider the specifications. That said, the Razr is special in its own might and it has a couple of things going for it. If you have the cash to spare this year and are willing to be adventurous with new technology, we have five reasons why the Motorola Razr is a nice buy (once it launches in India).

Motorola Razr: Why you should consider the Razr?

Nostalgia

Of course, one of the main reasons why the Razr is a Razr is because of the nostalgic value. The Motorola Razr’s design is based on the old Razr flip phone from 2004 and if you loved the old one, chances are that you are in love with the new Razr already. It has the same thick chin, the ultra-slim profile, and a stylish overall design. It even has a Retro Razr mode that brings out a classic skin similar to the interiors of the old Razr.

Hence, if nostalgia is what you are after, the Razr serves that in dollops.

Big and useable outer display

The Samsung Z Flip looks good but the puny outer display doesn’t seem to be of much use. The Quick View display on the Razr is big and useful. It also shows notifications but you can read you messages at a glance. You can also control your music with this screen. For taking selfies, this display is certainly bigger and more useful than what you get on the Samsung Z Flip.

It’s durable

Folding phones aren’t as durable as conventional smartphones but the Razr enjoys some benefits in this regard. The Razr has a plastic build at the back and that prevents it from dents. Moreover, the phone also gets a water-resistant nano coating on the inside which means even if you splash water on it or take it out in the rain, the Razr won’t die.

Android at its best

Motorola swears by stock Android and the Razr doesn’t break the convention. The new Razr gets a clean build of Android sprinkled with Moto Experiences. That means you get an interface with minimal bloat. Yes, it’s still on Android Pie but there might be an Android 10 update around the corner. If you love stock Android and want a foldable phone, the Razr is the only one that fits the bill.

Display doesn’t leave a mark

The Razr like all folding phones has a flexible plastic display but unlike the other phones, there’s no crease at the center. Sounds witchcraft? Well, Motorola uses a clever hinge system that doesn’t fold the display completely flat – it remains folded in a teardrop shape. Hence, you have a display that doesn’t look and feel weird to live with on a daily basis.
